NTT DOCOMO selects Ericsson for NFV trial

Ericsson selected as solution partner for Network Virtualization platform and Cloud Manager by NTT DOCOMO.

Ericsson has been selected as a solution partner to provide Japanese operator NTT DOCOMO with its network virtualization platform and cloud management for their project of commercial deployment of a complete virtualized evolved packet core (EPC) network in a multi-vendor environment.

Ericsson will deploy its globally-recognized Cloud Execution Environment and Cloud Manager for NTT DOCOMO, as part of their evolution towards network functions virtualization (NFV).

The solution will provide an open and future-proof network function virtualization architecture, fulfilling NTT DOCOMO’s need for a standardized multivendor virtualization environment.

Ericsson Cloud Execution Environment is built to cater for any possible workload, including the very challenging network requirements from telecom operators.

It is built on open source software and open standards to ensure multi-vendor interoperability, and can be combined with the Ericsson Cloud Manager for network services, virtualized network function (VNF) and application management, which orchestrates and manages the provisioning, optimization and monitoring of cloud infrastructure resources, VNF, network services and application.

Ericsson is committed to being a key driver of the open platform for network virtualization (OPNFV) to ensure that the vision of NFV is realized.

Overall, the Ericsson Cloud Manager and Ericsson Cloud Execution Environment will support NTT DOCOMO with enhanced flexibility of network deployments and operations to improve its efficiency, speed up new and innovative service introduction, and increase network resilience.
