OSS broadens its net

I always say the next big thing will happen in unexpected places.”
Anna Sui.

I recently ran a survey to find out more about the true OSS market needs. One of the responses caused a light-bulb moment. Despite having worked with customers from alternate industries and having nearly 250 entries in this blog roll, there has been little mention of the growth markets in non-CSP industries. How could I have overlooked it?

In an earlier blog entry we talked about customers being scarce resources. OSS is traditionally seen as being the domain of telecommunication or internet service providers, which we collectively term Communication Service Providers (CSPs), partly because that is where their roots lie.

However, with the information age disrupting all number of industries, ever more of these industries will start to see the benefits of what an OSS can offer.

This is the first in a series of blog entries that discusses how OSS impacts these non-traditional industries such as oil and gas, railways, electricity generators/suppliers, water boards, ports, miners, factories, construction companies and many others.
