Telco as a commodity?

I don’t look at myself as a commodity, but I’m sure a lot of people have.”
Marilyn Monroe

Will there be a time in the not too distant future where traditional telco services become a pure commodity? For example, will users simply plug into socket in their wall and get ubiquitous bandwidth / cloud services in much the same way as users access undifferentiated electricity?

If the assumption is that this concept will arrive sooner than expected and telcos have to seek revenues from their own over-the-top services, how will that impact your OSS?

There are certain parts that won’t be impacted as there will still be infrastructure to manage, even if it is only a black box to the customer. But I’d imagine that there will also be significant changes to the OSS to manage the new aspects of their business where they are differentiating (ie apps, content, services, customer support, etc).

How do you see your OSS changing over the next few years?
