What got you here…

When times get confusing, it’s easy to revert to the habits that got you here. More often than not, that’s precisely the wrong approach. The very thing that got you here is the thing that everyone who’s here is doing, and if that’s what it took to get to the next level, no one would be stuck.”

For all of us in the OSS industry, we’re in the presence of a massive inflection point where so many aspects of what we’ve always done will no longer be applicable in years to come.

But that’s a great thing because what has got us here still has endless opportunities for refinement. Projects and products are complex, they struggle to deliver on customer’s needs / expectations, they’re expensive and cumbersome, they take too long to deliver. The list goes on.

No matter what position you hold in the OSS industry, if you’re planning on doing your tasks the same way you’ve always done them, then to quote Seth, “more often than not, that’s precisely the wrong approach.”

What innovations are you bringing to your role and the industry? Are they to people, process or technology? I love hearing stories from the field from people who are taking radically different approaches and achieving better outcomes (or refining / discarding approaches that have unfortunately turned out worse). I’d love to hear your stories of innovation.
