Business metrics

Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.”

(possibly).

The B/OSS suite means a lot of things to a lot of people in a CSP’s organisation. If you are an executive at a CSP or were to put yourself at the terminal of the C-suite for a day, what are the metrics that are going to be most meaningful to you?

The TMF has created a document that provides sample business metrics in their GB-935 series (the TMF site was down when writing this blog, so please forgive me if this link isn’t quite right). GB935-A shows 285 different business metric specifications alone.

GB988 provides over 2,600 metrics defined by TM Forum.

With a healthy dose of speculation (every CSP is different from the others) I’ve taken a stab at which metrics might be used as indicators of peak performance and incorporated them into a survey.

Which of the following metrics do you think would be valuable for your business?

Can we even use real-time stats to measure sensitivity, eg where the real productivity differences are [Marginal product (MP) = Change in total output from adding one extra unit of labour or resource] to see which metrics actually create tangible improvements?
