An entrepreneur can have a level of greed – the desire to bring a new product to market and see it used by as many customers as possible, without being exploitative.

There is a justified but greedy desire to churn as many users as possible over to your new OSS. There are only a relatively small number of organisations that have a need for an OSS and products tend to stay in place for many years. As such in our industry, once you have a customer it is then imperative to keep them.

OSS Consultants, Integrators and Vendors need to develop an environment that fosters a trusting relationship with each customer as a means of establishing a reputation that attracts future customers and generates ongoing revenue streams.

To take it one step further, if you can make your customer prosper, you will prosper, so your proposition must deliver customer value first.

Gordon Gecko’s Greed is Good mantra is now as outdated (1987) as the movie it appeared in.
