“Kiss me, and you will see how important I am.”
Sylvia Plath.
Sylvia Plath’s quote elicits a smile.
Many an OSS integrator has not “kissed” the network inventory data in their managed network, so they have never had the chance to see how important it is.
The raw data coming from the network shows how the network really works, how the customers utilise the network resources and how all network fault data needs to tie back to the tangible elements within the network. You quickly come to understand the crux of how a new technology works by deciphering the data.
For the uninitiated, they may never know how important that data is. They may never understand what relationships can be created, what amazing insights can be delivered to the customer. And that’s where an OSS’s true strength lies.
Having the ability to precisely understand your deployed / allocated network resources in near real time is invaluable. Just ask any network designer who has unreliable network asset data. It surprises me how little attention is given to the data when compared with functionality and process when building an OctopOSS.
