“To create cool ideas you have to hang around cool people. Magicians and madmen inspire creative thought not pencil-pushers and bean-counters.”
Don The Idea Guy Snyder in his 100 Whats of Creativity
My first OSS project had more “characters” (Magicians and Madmen perhaps?) than all other projects in my 15+ year career combined. Reunions with team members from that project always bring a torrent of weird and wonderful stories flooding back.
I wonder if that’s why so many very cool ideas were spawned on that project – from auto-discovery to flow-through provisioning and a huge number of other innovations for the vendor I consulted to.
Have your most creative projects also been built in an environment of characters?
