“Data – there sure is a lot of it and looking forward there is going to be increasingly more. The Ericsson Mobility Report found that mobile data traffic is expected to grow by 12 times between 2012 and 2018. That’s huge!
So what makes data fresh? It’s the ability to use it in real time, to look at the different data sources, correlate them, analyze the results, and provide actionable insights so you can use it right then and there. That’s Fresh Data.
Pam Mallette.
Based on Pam Mallette’s definition, B/OSS exist to provide Fresh Data. Nothing more, nothing less.
And as Edward de Bono stated, “Most executives, many scientists, and almost all business school graduates believe that if you analyse data, this will give you new ideas. Unfortunately, this belief is totally wrong. The mind can only see what it is prepared to see.”
All good OSS provide Fresh Data, but they still need Tripods to keep them fresh by providing a stream of actionable insights that make valuable connections from amongst the sea of data.
