“Win-win is a belief in the Third Alternative. It’s not your way or my way : it’s a better way.”
Stephen Covey.
The following image has been circulating the Internet and it got me thinking about its implications to OSS.
There are many who would believe that there are three kinds of OSS and you can pick any two. In many cases this could be right but I think it is a cop-out for all of us in the OSS world.
I have this feeling that there is a third alternative to use Stephen Covey’s parlance. If we are able to find a path towards ongoing ruthlessly simplification across all aspects of our OSS, we will get solutions that customers find easier to use (GOOD), that won’t need as much implementation effort (FAST) and by association that will be cheaper (CHEAP).
