PAOSS Podcast Ep020 – Turning AI from Buzzword to an Implementation Plan with Simon Wilson

We love doing The Passionate About OSS Podcast, but it’s been a loooong time between episodes. Too long. We love the conversations, but the post-processing takes around 8-10 hours depending on the episode. Unfortunately (or fortunately), we’ve been so busy with client work over the last few years that the podcast has taken a back seat. But we’ve decided the show MUST go on and we’ve hired a media manager to help with the post-processing. Finally, Episode 020 has just landed.

Surprise surprise, it’s about AI. AI is probably the buzziest buzzword we’ve ever experienced. It almost makes us cringe to talk about it. But, it’s also the biggest game-changing tech in our careers and the reason why PAOSS has recently partnered with our podcast guest, Simon Wilson to offer services to network operators that wish to infuse their OSS/BSS with AI technologies.

Simon has spent a career at the cutting-edge of technology, across industries as broad as Decentralised Finance, Web 3.0, energy and AI, whilst starting from telco networks, software and OSS origins. Simon was recently instrumental in winning a highly contested multi-million dollar grant from the Australian government to help proliferate AI technologies to Australian businesses.

Simon has also recently started an organisation called Virtual AI Officer (VAIO) to provide clients with guidance on their use of AI technologies to drive entirely new business models whilst still considering the many related human factors. He describes how VAIO’s AI strategy and planning advisory services also lead into practical implementations – Helping clients to navigate how they want to transform their operations and where the multitude of different AI/ML techniques, tools and products can fit in to help on the transformational journey.

In addition to VAIO, Simon also shares stories and insights from past technology leadership at organisations like SingTel/Optus (telco), ANZ Bank (finance), RedGrid (blockchain / Web 3.0 and energy), ARAIN (AI consultancy) and more.
