Inside the OSS bubble

Have you ever noticed that you sometimes end up so wrapped up in the OSS project or activity you’re doing that you lose track of everything that’s going on around you? This is an example of being inside the bubble.

This is great for getting in the flow of what you’re doing. The challenge can be getting new ideas into the bubble or back into the outside world.

Two techniques I find useful:

  • Daily / weekly stand-ups for awareness of what’s going on in the teams around you
  • This daily blog (and the journal / research that contributes to it) for awareness of what’s happening in the the broader OSS community
