Drug dealers have enough faith in the addictive nature of their product that they can offer a free trial, knowing their customers will be back.
Without having the deadly effects, can a free trial of your OSS make your customers addicted, wanting to come back for more? Would you feel comfortable leaving a demo version of your tools with customers for them to have free reign in trialling? But more importantly, would the user interface be intuitive enough that they could interact with it immediately and fall in love with it? Would users walk away from the free trial knowing that your OSS would make their working lives so much simpler than their current tools do?
If not, why not?
