Our limitations as OSS match-makers

Are you looking for a role in OSS? Or are you looking for someone with skills in OSS to help fill an OSS role or on an upcoming project?

At Passionate About OSS, we get asked about both sides of this equation on a regular basis.

We regularly find ourselves trying to help as match-makers, albeit on a best-effort and pro-bono basis.

To help with this match-making process we introduced the “Finding an OSS Expert” programme many years ago.

Finding an OSS expert

It’s effectively a database of people who have either registered as looking for OSS experts or people who have OSS skills looking to be utilised.

To be honest, it doesn’t really help as much as we’d like it to. In part, it’s because it’s a private database that isn’t searchable by the public, making us both connectors and bottleneck. It isn’t an automated match-making service for the specific needs of the OSS world.

If you have any ideas about how we and/or it could better help the OSS industry and the people in it, we’d love to hear your thoughts.
